Hello beautiful creature! How's 2016 treating you? I hope these two weeks have already given you a lot of happy moments and positive vibes. If not, I hope the next 50 weeks do. Either way, this post will hopefully bring you a bit more positivity, since I read something amazing on GOOD the other day [x] that I never thought of, but is so relevant to our society.
Apologizing is something so humane, you don't even think about it. The amount of times I say sorry every day is more than my hands can count. I say sorry when someone has to wait for me, I say sorry when someone bumps into me, and I especially say sorry a lot during my driving lessons (which are going just fine, thanks for wondering). Why do we do this? It spreads a lot of negativity, and will leave you feeling like you did something wrong, when you actually didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
This amazing illustrator Yao Xiao touched this subject spot on, by making a collection of comics about how we can substitute "sorry" for "thank you". He states that you shouldn't apologize for simply existing, but should appreciate the others for what they've done, whether they already know it or not. I think this is a statement that should not be underestimated, because think about it. When is the last time you've actually thanked someone for understanding, instead of apologizing for being such a pain in the ass?
So let's focus on thanking people this week. Let's thank people for having hope, for listening, for waiting. Thank people for spending time with you. Be self-confident, don't drag yourself down by apologizing for something completely normal. By saying thank you, you will be less self-centered and more appreciating of your surroundings, which will in turn make your surroundings feel more at ease. Saying thank you is such an easy thing to do and it goes a long way. Try it. See what it can do.
We need to change this society in a more positive one, and I will start by saying thank you. Thank you for reading my posts. Thank you for taking the time out of your day for me. Thank you for listening. Thank you for existing and being such a beautiful being.
Spread the word, spread thankfulness. You'll be thankful you did.
